One of the most famous and pioneering first sopranos of the rock and roll music genre, Ross knocks ’em “dead” again with her impeccable singing voice, stage presence, style, poise, beauty during this performance at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, NV, U.S.A. (1979) For those of you wondering, yeah, this was recorded back when she still had a high pitched nasal voice.
She’s LIVE and in very fine voice and sings show tunes and blues favorites of hers as well as some of her other hits. She belts as only she can on “Don’t Rain on My Parade” and “My Corner of the Sky” from the Broadway show “Pippin”. Her energy, dynamics and interpretation are astounding and mesmerizing.
There isn’t a lot of rock and roll style with the exception of a quick medley showcasing some of the hits that she made famous as the lead singer for the 60’s girl group Diana Ross and the Supremes. There is also some stand-up comedy designed to work with the flow and theme of the concert delivered with her equally musical speaking voice. It’s too bad she never did voice-overs.
